Google to offer Pay-Per-View Hollywood Rentals on Youtube

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 03:56 PM PDT

Google imminent participation in the digital distribution of television content and film through its video sharing site, Youtube, may provide an equal thrust to Apple when it comes to distribution domination. Google's YouTube recently was in discussion with Hollywood's leading movie studios to unfold a global pay-per-view video service that could be introduced by the end of the year.

From the discussion, it is understood that the new service is very likely to be first launched in the United States and eventually it will be introduced to other countries.

Google attempts to enter the movie rental business is not a new thing. The have been in touch with major movie studios such as Warner Bros., Sony Corp. and Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. since last September but apparently the negotiations took longer than expected.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Google TV will be a success. In my opinion, Google TV is too transparent, failing to unite media from disparate sources into a common interface that makes sense BUT a $5 rental service is a nice addition to the feature list.

Minimalist Internet Explorer 9 User Interface Screenshot Leaked

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 03:11 PM PDT

Internet Explorer 9 will be unveiled by Microsoft very soon (15th September during Microsoft Beta Launch event in San Francisco). It's just around the corner but that doesn't stop people from passing around several of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) screenshots which have been leaked in the past couple of weeks. A fresh new Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 user interface screenshot was reportedly posted on Microsoft Russia's press site which was was spotted by ZDNet.

The screen shot (above) shows a navigation bar and fewer controls. There's a back button, a combined URL - search box at the top. And that's pretty much it. I don't see menu items like "Favorites" or "Suggested Sites" or "Get More Add-Ons" (but maybe they're still in there, somehow).

I know what comes into your mind; is the screenshot legit? As reported by Neowin, the screenshot leaked is legit as confirmed by one of their sources in Microsoft.

Whether you like it or not, it looks much better than its previous version.
