Sn0wbreeze Jailbreaks iPad iOS 4.2

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 02:13 AM PDT

iPad iOS 4.2 beta 3 has been successfully jailbroken by using Sn0wbreeze. There are 2 images posted by ih8sn0w showing the jailbroken iPad running iOS 4.2 beta 3 and running MobileTerminal app on it. With the release of iOS 4.2 is just around the corner, hackers are getting ready with the jailbreak for the new update.

Those who don't know, Sn0wbreeze is a jailbreaking tool created by ih8sn0w (talented hacker) which creates custom .ipsw files on windows. This is similar to another tool, Pwnage which on the other hand creates custom .ipsw files on Mac. The sn0wbreeze jailbreak for iOS 4.1 is not yet released by ih8sn0w but with the releasing of iOS 4.2 jailbreak it should be compatible with the earlier version of iOS as well.

Don't get too excited because Apple might be patching the iOS 4.2 up right before it's released, rendered this current jailbreak, pretty useless (well, not really but it can transform the jailbreak to tethered jailbreak).

VLC Media Player available for iPhone and iPod Touch

Posted: 27 Oct 2010 11:53 AM PDT

VLC Media Player is initially available for iPad only, but now you can pick up this application on most iOS device where you can watch video formats that are not supported by Apple. With many popular formats out there not supported by Apple, this app is a must app for your iOS device. Before you get excited about this wonderful application, please note, this app does not support iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G.

You will be able to load videos from your PC via iTunes for playback and to do this all you need to do is; In the "Apps" tab of your iDevice in iTunes, scroll down to the "File Sharing" option. You will be given a list of all the apps that have file-sharing compatibility on your device. Select VLC, and click "Add" to add video content from Finder.

This new version of VLC brings:

- Runs on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the recent iPod touches
- You can now delete files from the application, without having to go through iTunes

It’s official: Android Market hits 100k apps

Posted: 27 Oct 2010 11:12 AM PDT

Android has been around a few more days than "Windows Phone 7? though. I wonder if anyone has ever added up how many Pocket PC and Windows Mobile apps are out there. According to @AndroidDev, the Twitter account for the team that is working on mobile operating system Android, the Android Market has officially hit 100,000 apps. Number of apps in the Market have increased 300 percent over the last year, hitting new milestones at an increasingly fast pace.

Reads the status, simply: "One hundred thousand apps in Android Market."

During a recent interview, vice president for engineering at Google Andy Rubin said there are now 270,000 developers writing software for the operating system. Including apps that have been pulled by their developers over the course of Android's history, Rubin confirms the number is over 100,000, as well.

Is this enough for Google, with Apple so far ahead and a new challenger entering the fray in the form of Windows Phone 7?

iOS 4.1 Security Issue – Bypassing the Lock Screen to Make Calls

Posted: 27 Oct 2010 11:08 AM PDT

Your iPhone is not completely safe even the lock is on (at least for iOS 4.1). An iPhone user has accidentally found this kind of security issue when he randomly entered numbers for emergency call. It cannot be verified instantly because this user has already jailbroken the device. This security flaw soon attracted attention of iphone users and it's all over the blogosphere in just a matter hours.

It is reported that this bug affects iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4 where unauthorized people can easily access to the contact list, place a call, access voice control (play some musics). This flaw is pretty new and it's beyond the knowledge of people who keep bringing update to the iOS. This is true when the glitch can also be found in iOS 4.2.
