How to untethered jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 1 on Mac

The iPhone Dev Team has again proven its capability in challenging Apple's security updates by successfully releasing Redsn0w 0.9.7 B1 for untethered jailbreak of iOS 4.2.1 . Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 1 allows you to untethered jailbreak iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad on iOS 4.2.1.

Here is a few things you need to have before you start jailbreaking.

  • Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 1 is limited to iPad, iPhone4 and iPod touch 4G
  • Must have new ios 4.2.1 firmware and iOS 4.2 Beta 3 firmware files in your desktop
  • Cydia require your 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved on file

Here's the steps how to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered

1. Update your iOS to the official iOS 4.2.1 firmware and jailbreak it using Redsn0w.

2. After the idevice is jailbroken, tap on Cydia and find out if your 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved or not.

3. Download Redsn0w 0.9.7 and connect your idevice.

4. Get usbmuxd source package and unpack it, launch the terminal.app and next proceed by going into folder python-client:

chmod +x tcprelay.py
Run ./tcprelay.py -t 22:222

5: Start Redsn0w0.9.7 beta 1 and choose the file 4.2.1 ipsw firmware by clicking on the browse button.

6: At this point click on "Next" and choose "Jailbreak Monte" option. Redsn0w will allow you to browse and choose iOS 4.2 beta 3 firmware file. .

7: Switch off your apple idevice and make sure it's still connected to USB port. Then click next continue. The next step is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.

8: Now make sure that your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the pc before you click "Next" button.

9: Hold the Power button for 3 seconds. Then hold the Home and Power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. After that, release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

10: Sit back and relax. Allow RedsnOw to complete the untethered jailbreaking process.
