Popular VLC Media Player for Android just around the corner

VLC player is a popular open source media player that has almost every codec built into it, allowing almost media of different formats to be played on it. The VLC media player supports Xvid, Divx and Dolby True HD in addition to a lot of other video and audio formats. This robust and light media player is going to be available on Android in this coming weeks.

VLC Media Player had been ported to the iPad last September and then onto the iPhone and iPod several weeks later. According to Kempf, the lead developer for the VLC Android project warned the possibility of the player having issues in Android because of the various types of Android devices. Having said that, such problems will be gradually eliminated as the player receives new updates.

There's no demo or any glimpse of VLC player on the Android, so it fuels intrigue among Android fans as to how will the user interact with it, where will everything be placed and whether this VLC player will appear similar to the iOS app. These are the things that will be revealed in these coming weeks.

How to limit hard disk space of system restore in Windows 7

Windows system restore is a great feature to ensure that we are able to restore to several restore points that are created automatically by the system. Having several restore points will come handy especially there is something goes wrong with your PC but in return it will consume significant of space of your hard drive.

Turning off system restore completely is not really a good idea because you risk yourself losing sensitive data with no chance of retrieving it back. A more balance solution is to decrease the space limit used for system restore. Windows will keep the latest restore points and delete the older files to limit your hard disk space usage for system restore exceeds.

How you can setup or limit system restore point in Windows

1. Right click on Computer.
2. Select "properties" and go to "System Protection" from the left pane.
3. Select drive C and click "Configure".
4. Choose "Restore system settings and previous version of files" option
5. At disk space usage, adjust the slider to reflect the amount of space you want for your restore point.


6. Click "OK" and you are done.

Renaming icons in iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is not possible, at least that's what Apple has set on the original settings. If you insist on renaming the icons you need to have a jailbroken idevice. In order to be able to do that, you need to download Icon Renamer from Bigboss repository via Cydia application.

Don't worry if you don't find any new icon after the installation is completed because there is no really new icon for this small yet useful tweak. To rename an icon, tap and hold an icon until it is in the "arranging @ deleting" mode.

iPhone Dev team has just released Redsn0w 0.9.7 (beta 3) for untethered jailbreak of iOS 4.2.1 testing series. The Redsn0w 0.9.7b3 contains fixes for embedded video problems or problem of not hearing without connecting headsets.

The third beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). This version extends the fix made in beta2 over to the non-GUI programs too (like the daemons that handle media content). So now embedded videos in iTunes work.

Android 2.3.1 Build GRH78 is finally released by Google for Google Nexus S users. The latest version of Android can be updated Over The Air (OTA) using your Google Nexus S phone. Android 2.3.1 Build GRH78 which is 1.9 MB in size, comes with the latest Google Maps 5.0 app for Android and fixes several bugs.

To update manually, you can download the file from Google.

1. Rename the downloaded file to "update.zip" and place it in the root of your internal storage.
2. Turn off your nexus phone. Restart your Google Nexus S into the bootloader by holding volume up and powering it back on.
3. Use the volume button to select "recovery" from the list. You can choose it by using the power button.
