Samsung Galaxy player will rival iPod in 2011

Posted: 02 Jan 2011 09:09 AM PST

An iPod touch is simply an iPhone without the phone module. This holds true for Samsung Galaxy S as well when it exists without the phone module. What's it called? Samsung Galaxy player? Well, there is no official name yet for this device but when it makes its debut in less than a week in Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, this device will apparently be a real competitor to iPod family.

The new Samsung media player has no big different from its real smart phone counterparts. This player will have Android 2.2 Froyo, equipped with a 1GHz processor, a brilliant Super Clear LCD 4-inch display (not AMOLED though). While it's not AMOLED, it comes along with 3.2 megapixel camera at the back.

We hope to see Samsung revealing its latest non phone Android device at the Consumer Electronics Show next week.

Redsn0w 0.9.7b5 supports untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak on Windows

Posted: 02 Jan 2011 08:25 AM PST

I've posted about how to achieve untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak on Mac by using Redsn0w 0.9.7b1 and I've also covered about the release of Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 4 which requires no separate Usbmux process.

Redsn0w 0.9.7b5 (beta 5) which will be coming very soon, will definitely bring new excitement especially because it will come with Windows support. This has been confirmed by Musclenerd through his twitter.

Please note, the upcoming Redsn0w 0.9.7b5 still requires iOS 4.2 beta 3 firmware files & saved iOS 4.2 b3 hashes. So get ready with it for untethered jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on Windows.

How to downgrade 06.15.00 baseband to 05.13 on iPhone 3G Bootloader 5.8

Posted: 02 Jan 2011 08:00 AM PST

Most of iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users upgraded their baseband to iPad's one which is 06.15.00 (that is how to unlock iPhone 3GS and 3G). The following method will help you to downgrade the baseband of iPhone 3G from 06.15.00 to 5.13.xx, which is unlockable using Ultrasn0w. This method will allow you to restore your iPhone 3G back to the official stock firmware through iTunes which is not possible on iPad's 06.15.00 baseband.

This is not an official method from the Dev Team (they are working around the clock to realize a much easier solution for downgrading 06.15.00 baseband to lower basebands on both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS). Please note, this solution only works on iPhone 3G bootloader 5.8. Here is the detail step-by-step guide by RedmondPie:

What you need in order to downgrade 06.15.00 baseband to 05.13xx on iPhone 3G?

  • Jailbroken iPhone 3G
  • i-FunBox (for Windows) or DiskAid (for Mac)
  • Fuzzyband installed via Cydia
  • Certificate to use with Fuzzyband

1. Download the required certificate file ICE2-06.15.00.cert from here.

2. Install Fuzzyband from Cydia and start this app.

3. Connect iPhone 3G to you computer through USB cable.

4. Initiate i-FunBox. Click on File, then browse to Applications/Fuzzyband.app. right-click and then select Copy from PC.

5. Select the ICE2-06.15.00.cert file you downloaded in step 1. Copy it to the following location:Applications/Fuzzyband.app.

6. Disconnect your iPhone from your computer and start Fuzzyband app (refer step 2) on your iPhone 3G.

7. In Fuzzyband application, you should see your current version of Baseband, (should be 06.15.00 still) and you have the option to downgrade it to version 05.13.xx.

Once the downgrade process is completed, Go to Settings –> About and check whether your 05.13.xx baseband is already there. You are done - so no more error when you want to update or restore any firmware.

Alarm bug – iPhone alarm not working in 2011

Posted: 02 Jan 2011 05:29 AM PST

I noticed the headlines of "iPhone alarm not working" on several blogs but I didn't pay much attention, assuming this issue only affects small number of users. It just caught my attention when my iPhone doesn't work this morning - yes I double checked and it's set correctly. The alarm didn't work the way it should be. The bug is similar to what happened in Daylight Savings Time in November.

One of the solutions that can be found on the internet is as follow:

1. Tap Clock
2. Tap Edit
3. Tap your alarm
4. Tap Repeat
5. Set a repeat interval
6. Tap Save

Rest assured, this bug is not permanent, it will correct itself on January 3rd.
