The developer behind Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool, iH8sn0w, is currently working on a new utility that will help you extract & save SHSH blobs from your iOS device. So what make this tool any better as compared to similar tools like TinyUmbrella and Cydia which perform the same job? Well, the unique feature of this tool lies on the ability to save older firmware which Apple already stops signing. The release of a new version of Greenpois0n is just around the corner and this latest version Greenpois0n will support iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G, 4G and iPad. The hacker behind Greenpois0n jailbreak (Chronic dev-team), Joshua Hill has confirmed through his twitter.
Please note that Greenpois0n RC5 is going to be a tethered jailbreak (at least for a while). Greenpois0n was supposed to be released on the new year eve but for some technical reasons, it was delayed.
We should be able to see tethered Greenpois0n within this week or the next and should be followed by the untethered jailbreak after that.    |
| Preserve iOS 4.2.1 IPSW File and SHSH for untethered iOS 4.3 jailbreak [all iDevices] Posted: 03 Jan 2011 05:35 AM PST
Several weeks ago Comex predicted that the untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak should come on Christmas but because of several issues that plaguing the progress, the untethered jailbreak wasn't able to be delivered on time. So the Dev Team came up with their backup plan which is, using an old firmware iOS 4.2b3. However, the usage of the old firmware iOS 4.2b3 has sparked debate about encouraging piracy. For those who dot not know, iOS 4.2b3 was not released to the public, instead it's primarily meant for iPhone developers who in turn have accounts on Apple. Technically if you are not a developer, you are not entitled to get a copy of iOS 4.2b3. According to the excerpt above, iOS 4.2.1 IPSW & hashes are needed for the upcoming untethered iOS 4.3 jailbreak. Ok here's what going on and what the Dev Team is working on. Geohot introduced Limera1n bootrom exploit which make tethered jailbreak on any iDevices possible on any iOS firmware but in order to make a successful untethered jailbreak, a separate kernel hack is needed. So this is what Comex is looking for. Finding kernel hack is not easy and should Comex comes up with untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak, it's very likely that Apple team will come up with a patch for future iOS version that seal up the exploit. This is not at all a great scene for Dev Team and even for us. If Comex is successful in retrieving the iOS 4.2.1 kernel hack, Dev team will use iOS 4.2.1 firmware and this kernel hack to achieve untethered jailbreak on all future iOS release. So no more beta firmware files from Apple needed because iOS 4.2.1 is a public release. So if you want to get untethered iOS 4.3 jailbreak, make sure to save your iOS 4.2.1 IPSW. Let's hope Comex will finally find the "holy grail" that allows untethered jailbreak on all future iOS.    |
